The genetically engineered VelocImmune mouse is a state of the art platform for the generation of fully-human antibody therapeutics.
In a technological tour-de-force, we created the VelocImmune mouse by directly replacing mouse antibody gene segments with their human counterparts in the same location. Previous generations of human monoclonal antibody producing mice combined a knockout of the mouse gene with random insertion of human transgenes, resulting in mice with a compromised immune system. In contrast, Regeneron's VelocImmune mice respond to immunization as efficiently as normal mice.
Fully human antibodies comprise an important emerging class of therapeutic opportunities. The VelocImmune mouse offers a new paradigm for the generation of human monoclonal antibodies.
